Two week Annual Training 2001

Just got back from a 2 week, all expenses paid, U.S. Army "vacation" in Louisiana. The heat was intolerable with 80-90 % humidity. The opposing forces attacked our camp twice a day, and always when I was sleeping. They tried to sneak in, take sniper shots, with their military personnel dressed as civilians. The opposing forces rushed the gates to get in while others drove by shooting at use with machine guns just to see how we would react. We were endlessly attacked by helicopters and a Biplane that we shot down, a first in 7 rotations at that center. The helicopter insertion of 7 op-4 members was a real insult. They, the Opp4, never made it off the helipad. A satchel carried by a member exploded on the pad. Got nailed by a sniper carrying a 20X scope in a mock village next to us. That's what you get for playing Rambo, I suppose. I was so close that I could hear the civilian being held in the tower yelling while the sniper using him as a shield, told the gunner where I was. Those cheaters! Last night was hell night, with 2 Humvees outfitted with M60 machine guns harassing us while driving through the front gates. They were intent on taking out the hospital while mock civilians rushed the back gate. A sapper group of 5 rushed the opposite end of the compound. The Opp4 really wanted to take us Reservists since all the other allocated reserve and active units had been overrun, and their headquarters destroyed. They were, in actuality, shooting blanks and lasers used for simulation. Last, but not least, there were bugs, bugs, and more bugs. Also present and accounted for were chiggers, mosquitoes, dirt, lousy food, and plenty of ants. You got to love it!
